Mini-IVF or Minimal Stimulation IVF is similar to IVF-ICSI in terms of procedure and duration of treatment. Compared to an IVF-ICSI cycle, Mini-IVF uses lower doses of medication over a shorter period of time, resulting in the production of fewer eggs. Mini IVF is generally a treatment option for couples with minor infertility factors and women who are at risk of Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation. With centers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and medical partners in Al Ain, Fakih IVF is available to help couples throughout the UAE and abroad. Other treatment options available at Fakih IVF include IVF-ICSI, Natural Cycle IVF, IUI, Gender Selection, Comprehensive Chromosomal Screening (CCS), Screening for hereditary diseases through PGD, Male Infertility and much more.
Who are candidates for Mini-IVF?
- Healthy, young couples, with minor infertility factors
- In most cases, the wife has an ovulatory disorder
- Women who are at risk of Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation Syndrome
What are the steps and duration of Mini-IVF?
The steps of a Mini-IVF cycle are similar to an IVF-ICSI cycle however lower doses of medication are taken over a shorter period of time. If you are interested in completing Genetic Testing with your IVF journey, your physician will design your treatment plan accordingly.
Ovarian Stimulation (5 to 7 days):
Mini-IVF cycles tend to start on day 5, 6 or 7 of the Menstrual Cycle. During this time, follicular growth is monitored through ultrasound as they develop into eggs and hormone levels are tracked through blood tests - medications are altered as necessary during this period. 36 to 40 hours before the scheduled Egg Retrieval, an hCG "trigger" shot is given to induce maturation of the eggs within a scheduled timeframe.
Egg Retrieval (OPU):
Eggs are retrieved using a thin ultrasound-guided needle during a short procedure under sedation. The number of eggs retrieved depends on the body's response to the medication.
Sperm Collection and ICSI:
On the day of Egg Retrieval, a semen sample is taken to fertilize the retrieved eggs. To increase chances of fertilization, a single sperm is injected into each egg using a precision needle in a method called ICSI.
Embryo Transfer (ET):
Embryo Transfer is a minor procedure that does not require sedation. Following the procedure, hormone levels are tracked through blood test to confirm pregnancy.
