

Dr. Panayota is an American double board-certified consultant in Reproductive Medicine & Infertility and Obstetrics & Gynecology with over 30 years of experience.
Upon completion of her training, Dr. Panayota established and directed her own IVF Program, the Kentucky Center for Reproductive Medicine in Lexington, Kentucky, USA where she treated both local and international patients. She was the first physician to establish a pregnancy using testicular sperm in the state of Kentucky and one of the pioneers in the USA to introduce Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis and Screening (PGT-M and PGT-A) for genetic screening of embryos and family balancing. Between 2009 and 2013 she was the Medical Director of Shore Gynecology at the University of Maryland Medical System. Dr. Zarmakoupis has served as Clinical Professor at the University of Kentucky and the University of Maryland and was one of the founding members of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In 2013 Dr. Panayota was recruited by Johns Hopkins International and joined the Tawam Fertility Center at Tawam Hospital, where she also served as Medical Director between 2019 and 2021. Dr. Panayota is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UAE University in the Department of OB/GYN and is currently serving as an Expert Physician and Examiner with the Department of Health (DOH) for incoming Reproductive Endocrinologists/IVF physicians who wish to get licensed in the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Panayota was invited by the Department of Health (DOH/Health Authority of Abu Dhabi) as an Expert Panelist to help draft the updated “Department of Health Standard for Assisted Reproductive Technology Services and Treatment” and updated “Key Performance Indicators for Assisted Reproductive Centers”.
Dr. Panayota has published widely in both areas of male and female infertility and basic science research including 45 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and 101 abstracts in national and international conferences such as the ASRM, ACOG, ESHRE, and MEFS. Dr. Panayota is regularly invited to give CME lectures, as well as organize and chair sessions in major national and international conferences. Her current clinical and research interests include assisted conception, optimizing ovarian stimulation protocols in low responders, recurrent miscarriages, recurrent implantation failure, pre-implantation genetic testing for aneuploidy, and monogenic disorders.
